I attended the 2/7 memorial today at 29 Palms.  Fury is scanning the program and will post it.

I met all of Andy's family, plus some of his Marine buddies.  His Mom and Dad had had little contact with his computer gaming world, and I think were pleased that I was there to talk with them about that segment of his life.  His Mom said she had only glanced at the 1-8th page once or twice.  Later this week-end his family will see the Corps' OFP training area and learn all that Andy contributed.

The ceremony was very sad (essentially a funeral for 13 young men, with their names read while 13 sets of the rifle, empty boots, and helmet were set out very slowly, followed by Roll Call and 13 sets of dogtags hung on the rifles).  The framed picture of Andy set between the boots was the same as the one on our home page -- not the one in the program.

Still (despite all those Kleenex, yes, I cry like a girl), I'm glad I was there--not just representing 1-8th, but also because I had met Andy and really liked him, thought he was a thoroughly nice guy (as my Mother would say), and I was able to tell each of his family members that.  They were all wonderful people too and I was glad to meet them.

Amy took lots of pictures and will post them when she gets back to Wisconsin.
